THE AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

The aims of the school can be classified under the headings below:-

A. Pastoral Care and Personal and Social development.
  A1 To help the pupil to get to know himself/herself - his/her strengths and weaknesses.
  A2 To encourage the child to respect and tolerate other people, their property and their view-points. To foster the child's sense of self-respect and instil a respect for moral and religious values.
  A3 To develop a good character in the pupils and to teach them to live a good life after school.
  A4 To encourage the pupil to develop as an individual and as a member of society in order to prepare him/her for life as an adult.
B The Formal Curriculum
  B1 To provide a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiate curriculum.
  B2 To evaluate the curriculum and schemes of work and to induce changes as and when deemed necessary.
  B3 To encourage a wide variety of teaching and learning styles.
  B4 To develop the potential of each child to the full - academically and socially.
  B5 To ensure that each child is able to communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in Welsh and English.
  B6 To ensure that each child has the numerical skills necessary for the requirements of society and industry.
C The Hidden Curriculum
  C1 To instil the ethos that pupils are equal value whatever their age, ability, sex or racial background.
  C2 To allocate resources in the way that reflects aim 1 above.
  C3 To create a happy and safe environment within the school.
D Society/The Community
  D1 To enlist parental support and active participation in the education of their children.
  D2 To enable pupils to participate fully in a bilingual society.
  D3 To enable pupils to appreciate and make effective use of leisure time.
  D4 To develope a close relationship between the school and the local community and to function as a community school.
  D5 To encourage the pupils to take pride in their school, their community and their country.
  D6 To foster a sense of pride to take pupils towards the Welsh language, culture and heritage.
  D7 To extend the pupils' knowledge and understanding of the local community, Wales, Britain and other countries.
E Industry and the World of Work.
  E1 To provide pupils with the knowledge, skills, concepts and attitudes necessary for the world of work.
  E2 To promote in the pupils the skills of adaptability and flexibility necessary to cope in a fast changing technological world.
